Why are we asking
you for a $40 donation?
Why not $39 or some other number?
One reason is the significance of the number 40 in Scripture.
The number 40 appears often:

It rained 40 days and nights:
Genesis 7:4, 12.

40 days after sighting the
tops of the mountains, Noah set forth a raven and a dove:
Genesis 8:6-7.

Joseph mourned the death of his
father Jacob for a period of 40 days: Genesis 49:33 -
Genesis 50:3.

Moses was on Sinai for 40 days:
Exodus 24:18, 34:28, Deuteronomy 9:9-11.

Moses pleaded for
Israel
40 days on Sinai: Deuteronomy 9:18-25,
10:10.

Canaan
was
spied on for 40 days: Numbers

14:34.

Goliath taunted
Israel
for 40 days: 1 Samuel

after His crucifixion: Acts 1:3.
In each case the number 40 is associated with
a period of trial, probation or chastisement. And these
words appear to aptly describe the period currently being
endured by the Christian communities in the Holy Land.
